Discover one of Sardinia most unspoiled areas: the Stone Age site of Montessu, an amphitheatre of domus de janas (tombs hewn from the rock), known as “House of Fairies” because it was thought that they were inhabited by small supernatural beings. Montessu hypogeal necropolis dates back to the recent Neolithic era and it was a funerary field serving a wide area. There are many domus de janas, some simple some made of more than two cells, with decorations of the Mother Goddess or of the Bull God carved or in relief, excavated in a big trachytic hollow with a 1-km wide front. It is a most striking sites of pre-Nuragic Sardinia. In the Middle Ages Tratalias village was the most important center of Sulcis and we’ll visit its Cathedral, consecrated to Santa Maria di Monserrato. This church, built in 1213 in a French and Pisan Romanesque style, still retains its original shape almost entirely.
Finally enjoy the white sand dunes at Porto Pino beach, one of Southern Sardinia wonders, maybe the least known by tourists. Moreover, in Porto Pino there is one of the few spontaneous Aleppo Pine (Pinus halepensis) groves in the Mediterranean area, with some specimen of quercus spinosa...
Upon request we'll visit Monte Sirai, fortified town, founded by the Phoenicians in the 750 b.C. to controlle the mines of the Sulcis region.
Upon request we can combine the previous visits to one or more of the followings:
- wine tasting & winery tour
- easy walk to the nuragic Giants grave of Barrancu Mannu
- easy archaeo - walking to Pani Loriga, neolithic, phoenician and punic site.
